The Truth about Wireless Home Theaters

Posted on: August 23, 2011

Do all owners of a home theater have anything in common? They doubtlessly do. They are fed up with multiple wires and cables across the room. What is more, overwhelming majority of houses has no pre wired ceilings and walls, which makes the placement of home theater components a real disaster. The modern market seems to have this problem solved. But is this a true solution or just an illusion? Let’s try to sort it out.

If you have decided to purchase a wireless home theater think it over carefully and keep in mind that every wireless home theater always has wires. It is called wireless because either its speakers or a subwoofer has no cables that connect it with a main amplifier. But there is always a cable to a power source. Most people like the idea of having wireless rear speakers because it is of no problem to plug them into a power source and there are no wires stringing from a receiver – a perfect solution. You may say that the best way to get rid of wires is to use battery powered speakers. Well, it is ok for outdoor use or multiroom sounding, yet it is not sufficient for a home theater.

In comparison with the recent past wireless speaker systems are quite affordable on the market now. But I cannot say the same about replacing HDMI cables with a wireless variant, which is still rather expensive.

Such manufacturers as Creative Labs, D-Link, Linksys, etc are working on developing of new wireless technologies and options. However, unfortunately manufacturers designing a new wireless gadget seem to forget about the most valuable and important characteristics of sound and picture quality. That gives me the right to say that the present days wireless home theater technology is still in its first stages. But taking into account high demand on wireless technology, it is going to be one of the most essential ways hi-tech develops.
